Summary: Written for the hp100 owls challenge

Notes: Thanks to Jen, Pete/Melissa, Dot, and Meg for their continued support. I'm sorry, but the serious/Sirius jokes never fail to crack me up. Yes, I am mentally a 7-year-old.

Date: September 3, 2003

Sirius recognizes the eagle owl as it flies low over the Slytherin table, dropping a large package into Regulus's dish before circling back.

Sirius doesn't expect post from home. Doesn't think of it as home. Wouldn't want anything she sent.

But his eyes burn when Zeus lands on his shoulder, gently nudging his cheek before launching into the air. He's surprised, touched. Zeus takes his duties as the Black family owl seriously. Far more seriously than he ever took being a Black.

The old joke doesn't comfort him. He watches the owl fly away, secretly wishing he were going, too.
