First he made sure Harry was safe, then he made sure Remus was real. Remus looked solid, but Sirius was determined to feel every inch of him, just in case.

After the initial shock, Remus laughed, his hands tracing similar pathways along Sirius’s body, his mouth swallowing every exhalation.

They couldn’t be arsed to leave the study, didn’t bother with a silencing charm -- they needed to hear as much as see, taste, touch, smell. All five senses on overdrive, every nerve ending reverberating with the message, He’s here, he’s alive, he’s real, and so am I.

It was hard and quick and quite possibly the best thing Sirius had ever felt. He pressed Remus to the carpet, unwilling to wait for anything more elaborate than the feel of skin on skin, cock rubbing against cock, sweat-slicked and feverish

He came with Remus’s name in on his lips, Remus’s breath in his lungs, proof that he was alive; Remus followed, his every shudder and shake confirmation that he was real, that this had happened and would happen again.

Sirius buried his face in the crook of Remus’s neck, and Remus stroked his hair gently.

“Welcome back,” Remus said eventually, which struck Sirius as exceptionally funny, perhaps because it was so anti-climactic.

“Thanks,” he replied, clutching Remus close. “Thanks.”

And they slept.
