Xander watches her, the beautiful woman she's become. They've all passed through darkness, but Willow shines more brightly than ever, her hair a beacon to him, drawing him back to her no matter where he goes or where she is.

The women around her come and go -- Kennedy, Elizabeth, Marlene. If they made her happy, he thinks he could live with it -- that's what he tells himself, anyway, but her eyes are often soft and sad, and he knows she's remembering Tara. He wonders if she ever looked that way when she thought about him, but he can't remember. He was too stupid then, too busy looking at everyone else to notice, and when he finally did notice, it was the wrong time.

He loved Cordelia, and he loved Anya, and he cares about the one or two women who've stayed longer than a few weeks in the past few years, but this is Willow, and what he feels for her is the stuff of fairytales and legends -- love that still burns bright, waiting for its time to come.

Angel once called him Buffy's white knight, and Xander loves her as well, but Xander knows it is Willow -- it was always Willow -- who holds his soul, and he's willing to wait forever for their moment to arrive.
