Harry knew giving Snape the gift certificate was a mistake, but somehow he couldn't stop himself.

Hermione had returned from Christmas break with her hair neatly cut and styled, no longer looking like a dried out bush. She'd raved about the new salon her mother had taken her to, saying that even her hair was made manageable by the stylist, who was famous for having worked with something called Spice Rack or Spiced Ham. Harry wasn't certain.

When Ron muttered that the greasy git ought to go stick his head in a cauldron of Mrs. Skower's Magic Scouring Lotion, after he'd taken points from them for no good reason, it all came together in Harry's head.

Harry supplied Hermione with the money to send her mother, and a week later, he had the gift certificate for one wash, cut and blow at London's hottest new hair salon.

He approached Snape as class ended.

"What's this Potter?"

"Happy Christmas, Professor," Harry said nervously, and then rushed out of the dungeon. He didn't want to hang around to witness the results.

Thirty seconds later, a red-faced Snape came tearing up the corridor, robes swirling with his fury, screaming, "POTTER!"

Harry spent a month in detention, scrubbing cauldrons by hand, but it was worth it.
