This Time

Dumbledore slides the box across the table. Sirius opens it, heart leaping.

"Ebony, twelve inches, dragon heartstring. Ollivander feels it will suit."

For the first time in almost fourteen years, Sirius holds a wand in his hand. It warms to his touch, feels like an extension of his arm. Ollivander knows his business.

"Can you trust him?"

Dumbledore hesitates, then, "He is the keeper of greater secrets than yours."

Sirius nods, noting Dumbledore's avoidance but saying nothing. He'll trust those closest to him, and ask for reassurance before his doubts can cause damage.

Things will be different this time.
