A Not-So-New Thing

Date: July 1, 2004

"What the heck was that?"

"I was kissing you."

"That part I got. But the weird stabbing thing with your tongue--"

Natalie flushed. "Are you saying I'm a bad kisser?"

"No!"

She continued speaking as if he hadn't said anything. "That I don't kiss as well as Miss Choreoanimator, no wait, I'm Really a Porn Star?"

"Natalie, please."

She pulled away from him, crossed her arms over her chest and refused to meet his eyes. "I was just trying something new."

"Okay, but--" Jeremy fumbled for words that wouldn't make things worse. "I've decided I don't want new, really. I want you."

She finally looked at him, and for a long moment he was afraid he'd said exactly the wrong thing, and said it badly. But then her lips twitched and he could see she was trying not to laugh. He let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding.

Her mouth curved in a grin. "And you're rhyming, too."

"Natalie--"

"Shut up and kiss me."

He didn't need to be told twice. He leaned in and pressed his lips to hers, the only point of contact between them.

Her mouth was warm, sweet, familiar. He wanted this, couldn't remember why he'd given it up in the first place. Her tongue slid against his, making every nerve in his body stand at attention, and he relaxed into the kiss.

She unfolded her arms and wrapped them around him, pulling him against the soft curves of her body, and Jeremy was home at last.
