Full is not heavy as empty, not nearly, my love, not nearly, my love
~"The First Taste," Fiona Apple

When Tenar looks at Ged lying beside her at night, the moonlight turning his copper skin to silver, she is still amazed that they are together like this.

She remembers the pull between them in the Place of the Tombs, the invisible cord that bound them together, the hot rush of blood in her veins at the sound of his voice, deep and gentle in the darkness. She remembers not understanding what those feelings were, and for a long time, she'd forgotten she'd felt them at all.

The enchantment on him had been weakened by proximity to the Nameless Ones, but as he moved beyond their reach, it took hold again, and she'd not looked at him that way again, never even thought about it.

Now she lies beside him every night, cradles his body between her thighs as he loves her. Once, he convinced her that there was magic worth seeing beyond her life at the Place. Now, she convinces him that there is life worth living beyond the magic he has lost.
