Remus stares at the picture, fingers trembling.

In the photograph, James and Sirius are wrestling and laughing. He is watching, an amused smile on his face, Harry on his lap.

Peter stands off to the side, lips pursed in a tight, anxious line, dark circles under his eyes. He looks like a desperate, fearful man, and Remus ought to know -- he sees one in the mirror every day, and has for years.

Peter turns away, shaking his head, and Remus wonders how he never noticed before, never saw it. Never wanted to see it.

His eyes are open now.
