Liberation
[by victoria p.]
Rating: G
Summary: There is liberation in service.
Notes: first line from Daegaer
Date: October 7, 2004
In years to come, Tenar will look back on her days here at the Place, will see the years of her youth with a certain longing.
She doesn’t know that now, scrambling after the man, Ged, as the Tombs collapse in on themselves, eating themselves the way the Nameless Ones ate her soul.
She feels light as air, only the silver arm-ring and the man’s hand in hers tethering her to the ground. She is like the wingless birds of her dream, the flat figures in the Painted Room, held captive by the earth for so long, now ready to fly free.
She doesn’t know, now, how much that freedom will cost her, how strong she will have to be.
Someday, she will remember how easy it was to be Arha, to be empty, a vessel filled and used, poured out to be filled again. There is liberation in service. She has always known that. But it is only later that she will appreciate it. Now, there is only freedom, and the warm strength of Ged’s hand in hers as they escape the fruits of her betrayal.
