Hunger
[by victoria p.]
Rating: G
Summary: Trinity is tempted.
Notes: Thanks as always to Jen, Pete/Melissa, Dot, and Meg. Written for voleuse, who requested "Trinity. Candy bar. Hunger."
Date: March 5, 2004
You hold it in your hand -- dark brown paper over shiny silver foil, its weight solid, comforting, familiar. It used to be your reward, your gift to yourself for getting something done under budget, ahead of schedule.
Now you know it doesn't even exist, is simply another construct of the Matrix, even as your mouth waters for the silky smooth feel of chocolate against your tongue, the taste rich and sweet on your lips.
You swallow hard, trying to stave off the longing. It's simply a chemical reaction, you tell yourself, unreal and completely unfulfilling.
But there is no chocolate on the Nebuchadnezzer, and none in all of Zion. You hunger for it, the blissful rush of endorphins it would provide.
You pull at the wrapper, mesmerized by the scent wafting from the candy bar, and raise it to your lips, breathing it in.
"Trinity, let's go."
Neo's voice breaks your concentration, and you sigh, dropping the candy bar into the trash. You return to the real world, your hunger unfulfilled.
