The sky is a blinding blue. Willow has to squint against the sun to see Xander and Buffy down at the water's edge. They are barefoot -- Xander's jeans are rolled above his ankles, and Buffy's in shorts. Willow wears a long skirt that sways gently in the breeze, dancing about her legs in a way that reminds her of Tara and shadows chasing sunlight on the wall during long, lazy Sunday mornings in bed.

She can think of Tara now without the rage, though the ache in her chest is still sharp.

But today is for Buffy and Xander -- the present, not the past. It's been ages since the three of them have done something alone together, something that doesn't involve world save-age (or world end-age, though Willow doesn't like to think of her short stint as the Big Bad), and it feels good. Salt air, salt water, but the wounds are scabbed over and the damage is healing.

Willow grins; these are her friends, and this is one of the best days of her life, because she's with them. They're young and alive; nobody is trying to kill them at the moment. It's a day to be savored.

Xander threatens to toss Buffy into the pounding surf, and Buffy, all golden flesh and sleek muscle, easily turns the tables on him in their friendly scuffle, sending him head over heels into the water.

Xander rises from the foam, blue jeans soaked indigo, white tee shirt almost sheer, clinging to his body, face alight with mischief and joy, his smile as blinding as the blue sky above.
