Summary: “Come in out of the rain, Padfoot.”

Notes: first line from phineas jones

Date: October 6, 2004

Sirius is on the front steps, knees drawn to his chest, shivering violently.

Opening the door, Remus says, “Come in out of the rain, Padfoot.” He doesn’t wait, just leaves the door open, for Sirius to follow if he will.

Sirius does, because he has nowhere else to go. He was dead, twice over, and now he lives again. What else can a dead man do but follow open doors to wherever they lead?

Remus strips him bare, towels him dry with gentle hands and unquestioning eyes. There is no need to talk, because they’ve already said everything there is to say, and how many men greet lovers back from the grave not once but twice? There are no words for this, and Sirius is fine with that.

The warm, worn sheets feel good against Sirius’s bare, chilled skin, but better still is the heat of Remus’s body when he slides into bed beside him. That alone is worth coming back for, and Sirius swears he always will.
