Failing Hope

Summary: Remus has always seen the Thestrals. He hopes his friends never have to.

Notes: I hate titles. Written for the HP100 drabble challenge: Thestrals.

Remus has never not seen the Thestrals. He was surprised that first time, when everyone else boarded the carriages without a word about the scary black horses with nightmare wings.

He asked and Dumbledore explained.

Remus tries not to think about why he sees them -- one night and the complete alteration of his world. He hopes his friends are never able to.

When they exit the train at the beginning of seventh year, James stumbles and stares, wide-eyed, afraid. Remus knows what he's seeing. He lets Sirius go ahead, puts a hand on James's shoulder.

"S'okay. I see them too."
