Xander thinks that can’t be right, but it must be. He can still feel the hands on the back of his head, big and strong and warm. They shouldn’t be warm, the hands that try to kill you. But they were. If he thinks really hard, he can remember his mother’s shrieks, and Aunt Violet’s pinched face.

“Todd would never--“ she’d said, while Todd glared evilly at Xander from behind his mother’s hip.

Drusilla’s hands are cold, her lips chill against his neck. But her blood is warm in his mouth, and Xander thinks maybe it would have been better if he’d drowned.
