Lily knows her history. She remembers her parents' stories of rationing, blackouts, air raids. She used to think wizards were cleverer than Muggles, and had learned from their own bloody past, the way Muggles haven't.

She cradles Harry as James wards the house, the fifth new one in six weeks, and wonders why she ever thought wizards were better.

Hermione knows her history. She knows wizards aren't any better at learning from it than Muggles.

She stands amid the rubble of her childhood home, dry-eyed. She can't mourn something she lost years ago. She has a war to fight.
