Summary: Three Christmases in the life of Sirius Black.

Two Christmases ago, he was barely alive, the day no different from any other in an endless string of gray days.

One Christmas ago, he was hiding in the Shrieking Shack, waiting for the opportunity to kill Wormtail, too desperate and afraid to seek out those who could help him.

Now it's Christmas Eve again, and he's free. He scratches at the door, smelling cookies and pine in the warm rush of air when Remus lets him in.

"Happy Christmas," he says, voice rusty from disuse.

"Happy Christmas," Remus says, his smile and hug the only gifts Sirius needs.
