Yesterday at approximately 2 pm EDT, Patricia Rose made her appearance. She was 8 1/4 lbs and 20 inches long. Mother and baby are doing fine. She's a sweet little thing. I got to hold her last night, and she didn't cry or fuss. She was awake and alert and didn't seem to mind being passed around among the three aunts who were there. And, because it was a c-section I guess, she didn't have that red-faced, squishy look that most newborns have. She was beautiful.

Happy Birthday, Alyssa!

In about 12 hours, I'm gonna be an aunt again. I mean, the surgery is scheduled for 9 am, but you know how these things work. So I'm psyched! Another little girl, we're pretty sure. My niece and nephew aren't exactly thrilled, but they're getting to spend the rest of the week with my sister's kids, whom they just adore, so they're okay for now. And once they see the smooshy little baby... how can you not love babies? Sigh. Eventually, I'd like to have one.

Of course, I either need a job or a husband with health insurance first.

Mets are now 11 games back of Philly. Ridiculous. On the up side, Piazza's hitting again. Their pitching has been awful, though. At least the Devils won. Coming back to NJ tied is pretty good, I think.

Didja go look at the graphic deejay made for me for The Envious Moon? Ain't it gorgeous? And check out the one Rachel made me for The Soiled Dove. My brother was shocked to find I'm not the only "freak" out there writing fanfic and making fan art. Of course, he still asked the $64 million question: "Why don't you write original characters?"

Sigh. Does anyone else get asked this a lot? Does it annoy the hell out of you, too? Lemme know. Drop me a line at shoe715@yahoo.com. We'll discuss. <g>

It's been 13 years since my senior prom. Before you think I'm some kind of freaky loser for knowing this, the reason I know it is because tomorrow is my sister's wedding anniversary, and my prom was the night before. I got home -- shitfaced for the first time in my life -- at 5:30 am and had to be up and at the hairdresser's at 8:30 am. My advice: Never get a French braid when you've got a hangover. It's just too painful.

So today we celebrated my niece's 11th birthday. The actual day is Wednesday, when my sister-in-law is scheduled to go for her c-section. I need to ask Alyssa if she minds sharing her birthday with her new cousin. When I was a kid, I was both excited and annoyed that my birthday was the day after my brother's. My parents always made sure we had two celebrations, though, so neither of us got gypped, which is pretty cool of them, if you think about it.

Arrgh. Joe Sakic just slid one through the five hole on Brodeur. I love Joe Sakic [and he's a cutie to boot], but that's bad for the Devils. Hey, I feel for Ray Bourque. I do. But I still want the Devs to repeat. I mean, it's the closest I - as a Rangers fan - am going to get to a Cup for probably another 47 years. Gotta take what you can get.

And come on, isn't that a great NY-area story? Mets-Yankees in the Series, Giants in the Super Bowl (let's just forget the Knicks this year), and the Devils winning the Cup? That would be too cool...

I came within about two feet of the Stanley Cup when the Rangers won it in 1994. At the ticker tape parade. There was this dumbass who wouldn't let me get close enough to touch it when Joey Kocur brought it down off the truck and into the crowd. Sigh. That's as close as I ever got to Adam Graves, either. I love Adam Graves.
And Robin Ventura.

Hi Jen!

7:32pm in Sydney (that means 5:32am EDT to y'all), Yasminke

Won't Vic be surprised to see this here, eh?

MWAHAHAHAHAHA

This is for those of us who did NOT see the BVS, Angel, or West Wing finales.

Jen wants to know why, after an hour of downloading one particular e-mail, it still did not show up in her OE in-box, yet managed to appear truncated in her Netscape in-box. Restarting OE, after deleting both, compacting the folder, emptying the trash, the stupid thing downloaded TWICE more (on OE only).

After the hysteria subsided long enough for Jen to fire off a nasty e-mail to the tech support people (whose phone lines were busy and their page took fifteen minutes to load!), she asked the kind sender to deliver it to her work e-mail.

Downloading that took two minutes.

On a good note, both children are singing (and dancing) to "Time Warp" -- they are so cultured, no?

That coffee I had last night? Bad idea. Caffeine-induced insomnia. I did write kind of a funky little ficlet, which is currently being betaed, so it wasn't a total loss.

I accompanied my sister-in-law to the hospital today for her pre-op testing. She goes for a c-section on Wednesday. Had to be up early for that, of course, which is what made the insomnia so annoying.

And this weather we're having... I understand we need the rain, but the humidity - my hair is like one big ball of frizz, regardless of what product -- or how much! -- I use on it. And I hate using stuff on my hair. I hate the feel and, especially, the smell. The only products that seem to work are the ones that don't smell nice. Why is that? I suppose the chemicals can't be masked with whatever icky fragrance they try to hide it with, which makes it smell even worse. Sigh.

Had coffee tonight with one of my bestest best friends ever. She and I have known each other since she was four and I was three. That's over 25 years of friendship. Even when we lose touch for a while, once we get to talking, we get on like a house afire. There's none of that awkwardness you sometimes get when you run into someone you haven't seen in a while. I mean, she and I hadn't spoken in almost 2 years until she called me a couple of weeks ago, because she was updating her address book, and she wanted to see if I was still in the old neighborhood. I am. We spoke and it was like we picked up where we left off.

Normally, I'm not one for mush (that's Pete's department *snerk*) but this was definitely a great thing tonight, and I don't plan on waiting another two years to see her. I'd like to meet her kid and stuff. Because there aren't many people in my life who've known me that long, and she's the only one who isn't blood-related. That's important.

Was very disappointed in the Buffy season finale. Buffy wasn't freakin' heroic. And that was such a deus ex machina ending. Not to mention the whole X-Men Statue of Liberty scene rip off. I mean, come on! Even down to Joel Grey and the tongue! Angel was more fun than it had any right to be. Wesley kicked ass. And I really like Fred. And Angel was adorable. "You love me?" And I don't even dig Angel like that -- except for Cordy. What can I say, I've become a serious Angel/Cordy shipper.

Okay, so I went to bed early on Saturday night -- 11:30. I woke up at 2:30 am and stayed awake until after 5 am. That's just so wrong! Insomnia sucks (and so does my spelling, apparently). I did get some writing done, though, so that's okay, I guess.

The communion went well and the brunch was lovely. And I had quite a few mimosas. I lost count after 7. God, I hope I'm not turning into the wacky aunt who gets drunk at family parties. Except that, sadly, I was barely tipsy.

I drink like a fish and I learned to hold my liquor after Mexico. Two massively humiliating drunken experiences were enough to teach me how to hold my liquor, and my tongue. Would that some other people learned the same thing. I mean, I learned it at 20. You'd think people twice that age would have learned it by now. Sheesh. I hate people who can't hold their liquor and blame you for it. Bah. They shouldn't be allowed to drink.

One last question: Does anyone really care who Rudy Giuliani is schtupping? This is headline news? Oy.

It's only 10:30 and I'm ready for bed. I just had a lovely cool shower and I feel so sleepy. Only getting 4 hours of sleep every night will do that to you. Bleh.

I was on my way into Manhattan earlier this evening for dinner with friends - one of whom just graduated from Fordham with a Masters of Science. Now he's going to finish off his MBA. My brother graduated with an MPA last week - anyhow, I'm on the A-train, and I over hear these two guys talking. One says, "Do you have a broadsword?" The other answers, "Not yet, but I'm gonna buy one." We're in the middle of freakin' Brooklyn. Bed-Stuy! What the hell are they gonna do with a broadsword?

So we had dinner - very good Cuban restaurant called Calle Ocho on Columbus between 81st and 82nd. I had a few glasses of a lovely Argentinian Pinot Gris. I think that's part of why I'm so sleepy. And I have to be up and at the parents' house by 7:30 am tomorrow - my nephew (he's my godson as well) is making his First Communion.

All in all, I'm quite ready to drift off into the arms of Hypnos.

What the hell is going on with the Mets? Hello? NL champs to last place? Am I watching the Rangers here?

On the other hand, I'm enjoying the Devils Cup run. Is there anything better than the Stanley Cup Playoffs? Okay, yeah, the Rangers winning the Cup was better, with the Knicks in the race for the NBA championship... God, can you believe that's 7 years ago? I'm feeling my age lately. I mean, 12 years since Pretty Hate Machine came out? Ten years since Achtung Baby? And my oldest niece is going to turn 11 at the end of the month... Sigh... I feel like singing "My Back Pages" - "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now."

I was totally blown away by tonight's West Wing season finale. What a spectacular episode. Jed's rant to God in the cathedral was (once I found a translation of the Latin), heartbreaking. It's the best damn show on television.

I've lost 4 more pounds. Yay me! I think that's a total of 12 lbs. since I quit my job in February. This whole not eating anything but popcorn all day [and sometimes not even that] seems to be working.

Those people who are all up in arms about the Sopranos bashing Italian-Americans - I swear do they think people are stupid? I mean, yeah, okay, people are stupid, but as someone of Sicilian-American descent, I can say that I feel sure most people don't think I'm a criminal. And if people who watch the show start thinking all IAs are criminals or mafiosi, um, they're stupid. Not David Chase's problem. I heard one lackwit compare the viewing audience of the Sopranos to children who watch Superman and then think they can fly... need I say more?

Am I the only one disturbed by the fact that there's always an ad for some weight-loss center prominently displayed on The Hunger Site? Am I being morbid? Am I so in need of irony that I see it even where none is intended? Or is it just the whole unemployment thing has left me with way too much time on my hands to contemplate such thoughts?

On the other hand, at least I'm not reading deep meanings into last night's Angel, because I don't think there were any to be found. Fred sure is a cutie though.

TTFN!

I hate job hunting. I hate people who call me about my résumé and then turn out to be from a temp agency. Or who never return my calls when I call them back. Of course, I would quit my job during a slowing economy. It's just my luck. You know Murphy's Law? It should be Victoria's law. When I graduated college we were in a recession. It's a good thing I'm not ambitious, or I'd be worried about my <snicker> career. So if you know anyone who's looking for a good Admin or Office Manager in Manhattan, drop me a line. I don't make coffee, but I'm a whiz at spreadsheets.
