ABC Challenge

Untitled
Author: Yasminke
Summary: Answer to the ABC challenge on Unfit. This is not a fanfic, although the characters in this are in "A Wizard in Oz" and mentioned in "When Demons Attack." All you really need to know is that David is being *very actively* recruited by Ashmodai and Lillith, and has been for the past five years or so.

Luxuriating in the warm afternoon, the couple strolled along Bondi Pavillion, enjoying the late winter sunshine despite the tempest looming on the western horizon.

"Mermaid Rocks or Tamarama?" Lilah suggested while they walked down the concrete steps to the sand.

"Neither," David said glancing back over his shoulder. "Our best bet would really be to head toward someplace with a boundless supply of caffeine."

Powdery wisps of clouds fell prey to a band of angry thunderheads as it traversed the city and headed toward the Pacific. Quickly ‹ as lightning crackled and thunder reverberated ‹ the Bondi LifeSavers gave the signal for all to come in from the water.

Reaching for the warmth of both her hand and assurance, David entwined his fingers in Lilah¹s. She noticed the habitual, furtive glances of his lazulite eyes as he scanned the area for his tormentors. Time moved in slow motion as they headed for the Campbell Parade and the relative safety of its beachfront cafes and stores.

Undulating over him like waves on the nearby surf, the sudden nausea that heralds the proximity of his demonic stalkers stopped David dead in his tracks. Vigilantly, he took deep, steady breaths giving himself the chance to squelch the panic so they could attempt to return home before either Ashmodai or Lillith caught them.

When the hail began to descend on the eastern suburbs, Lilah decided to forego their first choice of cafes and pulled David into the nearest eatery. Xanthippe, an unassuming delicatessen, had been completely deserted five minutes ago, but was now bustling with others escaping the torrent which had begun to pummel the beach.

"You know they¹ll show up no matter where we go, Lilah," David warned as he gingerly sat at a small table.

"Zealousness is such an endearing quality in a demon, don¹t you think?" she said and bent forward to kiss him softly before she went to the counter to order their food.

Ashmodai sat down at the table across from David, his smile deceptively warm as his coffee-brown eyes locked onto David¹s. "Been ever so long, sapphire eyes."

"Can¹t say that I thought you¹d risk another public display, Ashmodai."

"Doesn¹t bother me where," the demon answered. "Even an open arena such as this is worth a toss with you."

"Fuck you and the horse you rode in on," David quipped, immediately regretting his choice of phrases.

Grabbing him by the scruff of the neck, Ashmodai pulled David over to him. "Hardly the time for that, lover. It seems that fantasy¹ll have to wait, since your cavalry has arrived."

"Just in the bloody knick of time, I see," Mike said, slipping into the recently vacated seat. "Kosher deli with a name like Xanthippe is a dead give-away, mate," he responded in answer to the amazed, but relieved look on David¹s face.
